Several of my teachers played – my female German language teacher was a goalie! I always watched, but never thought I could play. I was hooked from the beginning and there is no turning back .... |

| | Directors |
| | Name: | Courtney Nugent | | Title: | Director of Team Relations, Competitive Division | | Team: | Firebirds, # 26 | | Hometown: | Born in Wisconsin, but raised near Philadelphia | | Occupation: | Biochemist | | # of Years Playing: | Since 1999 | | Bio: | My love of hockey began when I was a barn brat in a pony 4-H group. During the winter off season we would go to Flyers games and I couldnʼt believe what a great sport it was (even from the nose-bleed seats)! I started playing a bit in college, then seriously in grad school at Penn State and havenʼt stopped. I am a science nerd by day and knitter or hockey player by night (depending on the night of the week). Prior to moving to Colorado two years ago, I lived in New Jersey and it was there that someone on my womenʼs team told me about the DWHL. She told me what a great organization it is and it sure is! I am so excited to be working and playing with such a wonderful group. |
| | Name: | Andrea Steinle | | Title: | Director of Membership | | Team: | Royals, # 40 | | Hometown: | Kansas City, KS | | Occupation: | Petroleum Geologist | | # of Years Playing: | 1 | | Bio: | I hadn't skated since I was a kid and had NEVER been on hockey skates. My husband and kids started playing ice hockey when we moved to Colorado a few years ago and I decided that rather than fight the garage odor, I may as well add to it. I've had a blast ever since joining the league! |
| | Name: | Mary Lindgren | | Title: | Director of Team Relations, Novice Division | | Team: | Victorias, # 13 | | Hometown: | Minnesota | | Occupation: | Real Estate Appraiser | | # of Years Playing: | Since Fall 2004 | | Bio: | Hockey has been a passion of mine since growing up in Minnesota so long ago. I played with the neighborhood kids on a rink in my backyard, however in figure skates. Back then girls were not allowed to play in an organized league. Watching my daughter play the game has been a great joy. After finding the DWHL I am now living my childhood dreamm of being on a hockey team. I even get to play with my daughter, which is very special. So all you hockey moms come and join us, or baseball moms, football moms... |
| | Name: | Beth Young | | Title: | Director of Internet Operations | | Team: | Spitfires, # 52 | | Hometown: | Everywhere - Military Brat | | Occupation: | I/T Project Manager | | # of Years Playing: | Since 2005 | | Bio: | I was never allowed to play sports as a kid, so I decided to make up for it in my 20's and 30's! I started out learning how to ski, then started figure skating, then joined some softball teams. After a complete knee reconstruction (skiing, of course!), figure skating was no longer possible so I switched to hockey.
Hockey instantly changed my life and I have been completely dedicated to the sport ever since. It consumes my every waking moment, and I wouldn't have it any other way!! |
| | Name: | Jodie Whitehead | | Title: | Director of Scheduling | | Team: | Renegades, # 44 | | Hometown: | Farmington Hills, MI | | Occupation: | Forensic Engineer | | # of Years Playing: | Since 2004 | | Bio: | Who knew that those double-runner plastic skates that Velcro to the sole of your shoe would start something so big for Jodie. Hockey is infectious. Don’t even try to do it, unless you want it to plague your every way of thinking and being. Not really, but it truly can add so much to your life. It’s never too late to start, even if you can’t skate. Don’t wait, as our friends at Nike would say, “Just do it.” |
